In 2021, while celebrating 20 years of restoring, protecting and preserving the wild that is Zuka Private Game Reserve, Tara and Jessica created Getty Asterism.
By formalising the growing team, with their passion for the natural world and their extraordinary discoveries across the reserve, into a multifaceted ecology venture, Getty Asterism, our impact can evolve, ripple outwards and head into the future.

WATER BABIES!
For these semi-aquatic giants, water is life!
Spending around 16 hours a day, submerged to stay protected and cool they emerge at dusk to graze – often treading many kilometres through the night.
We see them out on cooler days under cloud cover, when their barrel-shaped bodies don’t overheat so quickly, but they are quick to retreat back into the water again – their shield and social stage!

WATER BABIES!
For these semi-aquatic giants, water is life!

HABITAT TEAM!
Natural vectors such as wind and animals, and of course humans carry seeds and particles into the reserve and these little invasions have an ecological impact on our native habitats.
The ladies of our habitat team are our superpower - they are instrumental in helping with alien plant control or bush encroachment – an important piece of land restoration and in protecting and preserving our natural habitat.

Over two decades ago, we were a part of the @munywanaconservancy Leopard Project - a 10 year study that started in 2002.
This research revealed critical issues with leopard conservation and ultimately shaped new policies (extending nationwide) to protect and preserve leopard populations.
As a result, we see the changes. Leopards thrive within our conservancy and, perhaps even more importantly, outside of protected areas; a testament to the positive impact of dedicated research efforts which become a shared conservation story!
