In 2021, while celebrating 20 years of restoring, protecting and preserving the wild that is Zuka Private Game Reserve, Tara and Jessica created Getty Asterism.
By formalising the growing team, with their passion for the natural world and their extraordinary discoveries across the reserve, into a multifaceted ecology venture, Getty Asterism, our impact can evolve, ripple outwards and head into the future.

As the global art world gathers in London for Frieze, Zuka offers offers golden light and space for some of Dylan Lewis’s series of big cat sculptures.
The South African sculptor created life size pieces in bronze from years of time in the bush and close observation, drawing from life and detailed anatomical study.
His understanding of the structures beneath the skin gives an energy and expression to nuanced movements and primal behaviors of the big cats.
Here, at Zuka, a typical cheetah poise is captured and held in stillness. Gallery lighting - care of the sun!

7 WONDERS!
Celebrating World Habitat Day today🌱
Here at Zuka and through our wider @munywanaconservancy we are fortunate to live and move through 7 distinct habitats and ecosystems which in turn support biodiversity that is rich and mesmerising.
Our 7 wonders are:
🍃Sand Forest: An ancient, endangered specialised type of subtropical woodland found almost nowhere else in Africa.
🌱Zululand Thicket: Dense, thorny vegetation that provides optimal cover for leopards and shy antelope.
🌿Woodland Savanna: Open grassy plains with scattered acacia and marula trees trees.
💦Floodplain Grasslands: Seasonal wetlands which run into the local Mzinene River system.
💧Wetlands and Marshes: Where water is naturally retained in small ponds, called pans, as well as marsh.
Mountain Bushveld: Rocky outcrops and elevations, home to rare and endemic flora.
🌳Coastal Dune Forest: Dense forest with a thick canopy creating micro-climates and thrives on older stabilised sand dunes - the highest in the world!
🌊And then the stunning Indian Ocean is revealed!🌍

BELOVED
Bringing back these beloved creatures to our reserve and the wider Munywana Conservancy began in 2019 - in partnership with the African Pangolin Working Group – successfully reversing their local extinction in this area.
The animals we reintroduce, have been recovered - through the complex work of collaborative, international organisations - from extreme situations as a result of illegal poaching.
After a period of stabilisation by a specialist veterinary team, each pangolin experiences a closely monitored soft release back into the wild here.
Our research team are skilled in their ability to support each release and the ongoing successful monitoring of every animal via advanced tracking devices.
Since the first reintroductions, the project has heralded significant success. These shy and vulnerable Temmincks ground pangolins are thriving in the conservancy’s ideal habitat, and as a result, we are seeing healthy animals and perhaps, the greatest joy of all, pangolin pups!

A Wild Constellation Part 2
Sharing with our Zuka team, our neighbours, partners and so many of the people who form the vast human matrix connected to Zuka in a myriad of ways.
Spanning 25 years, the film traces our story back to its earliest days, and the original flame from which so much has since constellated.
To share Zuka’s origin story with this audience – all of whom are a part of the story themselves - was especially meaningful.

A SPECIES
Today is World Rhino Day and it is our great privilege to be
protecting this beautiful and important species.
Through our integrated approach to their protection on the ground, and extending that further through powerful partnerships and collaboration, we are honoured to help preserve and grow populations of southern white rhino and black rhino across Africa.
As part of the Munywana Conservancy, over the last three decades, we have translocated 125 rhino to other reserves in 6 African countries, strengthening rhino populations beyond our own boundaries.
And, as part of the @africanparksnetwork ambitious and unprecedented Rhino Rewild programme, we hosted and cared for 160 rhino for two years, before their relocation to reserves in multiple recipient countries where they are creating new founder populations.
Sharing this today, in gratitude, highlights an alchemy of transfrontier partnerships, where expertise, philanthropy, goodwill, possibility, and optimism becomes a shared energy that can make a real difference.
