Establishment of Zuka private game reserve plant seed bank and seed ball rolling

Project objectives and aims

At the Zuka nursery, we harvest various seeds including grass, legume, tree and shrub seeds. We also create seed balls that are used for restoration purposes. We also aim to collect various heritage seeds from local Zulu food crops.

The ultimate objective is to establish a seed bank of all plant species that are needed on the reserve, for restoration (wild grass & legume seeds) and for the lodges (tree seeds).

Expected Outcomes

• Production of seed balls for restoration practices
• Harvesting of tree, shrub and plant species to be cultivated in the nursery
• Collection of heritage seeds from local Zulu food crops
